( Maaaan. This isn't how Hawks wanted to spend his day; collecting information from the locals, staking out different houses, trying to locate Toga without the other villains taking notice. After all of this is said and done, Hawks will be chowing down on some of Kuoboro's chicken, that's for sure.
The pro-hero makes quick work of climbing the shoddy ladder up to Toga's apparent hideout; a rundown and cold tree-house. And when he reaches its rotting patio, Hawks calls out: )
Yo, little miss! I come with a peace offering.
( He shakes the bag in his hand; there's some clothes and a few other necessities. Oh, did he mention he's brought some steaming hot kushiyaki; the tendered meat smells preeetyy good, if you ask him.
Now, if Hawks' is right, Toga must be slumming it out at the moment. She's gotta be hungry. And she'll want some warmer clothes. Hopefully it's enough to dissuade the girl from running away at the sound of his voice. Maybe they can negotiate? )
[Not the first time Toga been on her own. Only difference here is there isn’t much authority and she could pick a place to crash in, long as it was vacant. So here was Himiko, leaning over an open window, tummy rumbling, wearing just a long jacket, she could fall asleep here. That is, until a certain pro-hero called out.
Himiko’s ears perks up as if alarms were setting off. The moment her mind registered ‘Hawks’, her fight or flight mode kicked into overdrive, and well.. hope Hawks is prepared for some incoming weather his way, it’s about to rain pots and debris. Himiko is chucking random items over the window towards his direction. Nothing too harmless, but it sucks not having a knife yet.
The smell of kushiyaki reached her nose a moment later and the raining debris stopped, for now. Himiko peered over the window curiously like a small kitten.]
Something smells good.
[Her nose wiggles as she smells. She says this while still cautious and eyes on the target.]
( An aerial assault of said pots and pans has Hawks dodging and weaving on the patio; ducking before one can clobber him on the head. Yeah, this is about what the pro-hero expected. Ain't he lucky Toga has no weapons yet!
However, the hail Mary stops, and Hawks peaks out from behind the cover of his wings, spying little tufts of blonde hair from the window and yellow eyes following it. )
—You hungry?
( He waves the bag up at Toga, attempting to lure the girl out. This is a start. Hawks just has to play his cards right now. )
[It was pretty funny to watch Hawks dodge the garbage. Even if he still had his wings. This told her enough what’s going on with bird man and his quirk status, least she’s guessing.
She’s still playing cautious for good reasons. Still, the smell of kushiyaki is irresistible. Suppose, she can give an inch.
Himiko’s still hanging out by her open window, this time she lifts her head high enough for Hawks to see her face. Both arms rests on the window, head tilting a side, judging harshly.]
Yeah I’m hungry.
[No mistake from her growling tummy, but she wasn’t quite there yet.]
( Hawks laughs, unfazed by the Himiko's suspicion. Hey, this was good. She wasn't running, nor throwing pots. It's a good sign. )
Can't fool you, huh?
( Ulterior motives detected, Hawks doesn't try to hide it. She wouldn't buy he was just here for a friendly chat anyway. But that doesn't mean he's going to lay it on too thick. He isn't the law and order of the Town, after all. He just wants to keep everything as peaceful as possible. )
A little birdie told me you borrowed some clothes from one of the locals. Thought I'd check in and see if you needed any help giving them back.
[At least Hawks wasn’t acting above the law. As Hawks explained, Himiko recalled a post, head tilting back, almost thoughtful, nodding slowly, and then glanced away replaying—]
Naw!
[She snaked away from her open window back into her cute treehouse hut as if turning away a door to door salesman. Absolute rejected!]
[She’s smelling it Hawks! Meanwhile trying to resist the temptation, and she feels her stomach turning against her.
It takes a moment, because suddenly she fell quiet. Another moment pass as Hawks will be greeted by a her front door, swung violently open. If he had to guess, she kicked it. Congrats Hawks, you’ve summoned one pissed and hungry teen.]
You’re really annoying.
[At least she’s wearing a long shirt with shorts hiding underneath there somewhere, like someone woke her up out of bed or something. In one hand, there is no mistake, she’s holding a big kitchen knife. She sighs tiredly, still annoyed.]
Fine, I’ll play your little game Hawkey~ Only if you do one favor for me, and you owe me.
[She’s grabbing straws while the kushiyaki still hot!]
( Hah hey! Would you look at that? The door flies open and one hell of a grumpy villain steps out of it. Hawks is grinning. They are getting somewhere. )
Yeah. I get that a lot.
( Hawks shrugs. The blade is noted but the pro-hero doesn't make any outward response. Yeah, he knows what is probably coming next. It's a trade he can't except. But they are negotiating. So that is something. )
It depends on the favour, you know that.
( He'll hear her out, is what Hawks is saying. He takes another bite of a skewer. They sure are dwindling fast! )
[Before discussing important matters, the delicious skewer is still calling her name. That crunchy sound was enough to snap her back to her poor stomach. Himiko is flailing frantically, with knife in hand, sorry-not-sorry.]
At least save me a stick first you jerk!
[Where’s her piece? She is looking around, still flailing, with a knife.]
( Excuse me, Toga-chan, but this is Hawks' only bartering tool at the moment! He's not gonna give it up so easily. )
Alright, alright! I'll save ya two.
( He teases, bouncing back a few steps out of Toga's line of fire. That is one sharp knife! Has she been honing it? Probably. No Hawkie blood for you today. )
I'll give ya one if you tell me your terms. Sound good?
[Has Hawks ever seen a pissed off puffer fish? He’s about to! Himiko’s cheeks puffs out, holding her breath. Fine. So, she holds up two fingers. Yes Hawks, there’s two in mind!]
First, I want to know what’s the last thing you remembered before coming. Second, if and when Jin drops in, apologize to him.
Colour Hawks surprised. With the blade swinging around, he thought Toga would ask for his blood. But this?
...It's more earnest then he could have imagined. And there's a tight pull in his chest, the familiar pang of guilt, as he looks at the girl.
The mission came first. Imagine how many lives could be lost?
And yet. Twice wasn't a bad guy. He only died because Hawks hadn't moved fast enough. )
Got it. ( Yeah, Hawks can do that. It's the least he could do. )
And what do I remember? Well... ( This is a bit trickier. Is there something Toga knows, he doesn't? Could it be used against him... ) I guess I was in a car? Meeting some international heroes?
Whether Hawks followed through or not, only time will tell. For now, she will have to try and trust his word. After all, Hawks made a strange expression, and Himiko couldn’t read it. Meanwhile, Himiko’s expression was still, she was a petty girl with a grudge.
As for the next answer… her eyelids lowered, unimpressed. Perhaps she expected some kind of answer like that. Still, if that’s his answer, she won’t press further.]
Himiko is wrestling to get her things together. After the Green Knight thing, her mood almost went down hill, so this part makes up for it. And the arcade world glitched was great too. After she put her stuff together, she is sliding down the tree and heading off to the destination.
Maybe she arrived a little early, she couldn’t help it. It’s her birthday and she will do it! Himiko stands outside knocking on the door with a grin on her face. She plans to enjoy her life to the fullest!]
Instead of the door being opened when she knocks, she's actually just in time to hear footsteps behind her, and then Kenma's making his way up the steep tree steps with a suspicious box in his hands, smiling faintly up at Himiko. ]
Ah- you beat me here. I came from town.
[ Not a hard guess what's in that box.
Kenma steps around to pull out his key and carefully open the door with one hand. Click! And they're in!
The inside of the treehouse is pretty neatly laid out, a small cozy living space with a kitchenette, living room, and a couple doors leading off to his room, an unused bedroom, and the bathroom. The area that would normally be just a couch is covered in pillows and blankets, more nest shaped than traditional seating.
TLDR a kindof "lo-fi beats to chill to" background vibe. ]
[Wait, did she just climb a tree to get here? (She also lives in a tree somewhere).
Himiko doesn’t have much stuff, and she seems pretty eager about this. Her feet are tapping on the wood, almost like giddy jitter teen girl waiting for her boy band concert. She is just, too dang happy about this.]
Ken-chan! Good evening.
[She waves with a huge grin.]
That’s okay, I came from over there.
[She points to one of the tree houses. From a distant. The box goes unnoticed and already Himiko is prepared to scoop it off the boy’s arms.]
Hey hey, let me carry that. We can have it later.
[She takes a peek inside, its too dang cozy. Wow, looking at that nesting of pillows and blanket, she’s already coming up with ideas.]
[ His head bobs neatly, passing off the box without an issue as he peers out across the treescape towards her tree. Mmh- not too far away, actually. His own treehouse has some wooden steps spiralling around the trunk before reaching the entrance, so not a super difficult climb!
Into the house, the door clicks shut behind them and her enthusiasms a bit infectious, keeping a small smile on his lips as he steps over to the living room. ]
Since it's your birthday, you can choose what we do?
I've got plenty of games... And some movies.
[ He trails off, unsure just what else he could offer. Snacks? That goes without saying. ]
[She carries that box in carefully, treading her way into the cute home. She looks around, getting designer ideas for her own. Because in truth, that’s her home over there too. The realization is hard, but she doesn’t seem angry about it. Himiko’s smile barely wanes.]
Your place is a mess, looks good.
[Which she didn’t mind, bouncing herself around, finding a small table or night stand to put the box down. Then her small duffle drops to the ground next to it.
When Kenma mentions some ideas for tonight, Himiko paused, tapping her chin. It’s been so long the last time she had this kind of fun. Is this… going to turn into a nexflox’n chill event?]
[ His eyes blink wide for a moment, glancing around with a kindof freeze. He probably could have folded the blankets... Admittedly. The cozy addition of soft cushions and warmer lighting led to a kindof... nestled space? It was, admittedly, a treehouse. ]
Mmmh- Sounds good.
[ Now with some sense of purpose, he's pulling a few games out, setting things along and turning the console and TV on, grabbing the spare controllers to bring back with him before falling into the deeper seats with a soft thud. One controller's held out for her with softer smile.
As long as it's games, he can relax pretty easily. ]
I've got... Blario Kart, and Blario party, they're pretty good for multiplayer. Or we could play a shooter or horror-
[It sounds familiar back home, she didn’t have much of a lecture to play it. Here though, Himiko happily plucks the controller from Kenma, and then falls back into the soft cushion, sprawling both arms and legs out. Oh yeah, she was getting conformable. Absolutely normal.]
I can’t believe I finally get to try it out! Blario Party is good too, and Super Smash Bro is a good way to end friendship.
[Now, she needs to remember the buttons. Pick up boxes, release item… Himiko is grinning happily. She side-eyes Kenma when the race is about to begin.]
Now, don’t you dare go easy with me, or I’ll cut you.
[ Casual as can be, Kenma hands over the controller, blinking once as she stretches and settles like an overenthusiastic cat. Pfft. ]
Did you not get to play games much?
[ He picks out his character, Waluigi for fun, going through the course selection and higher speed. The comment earns a pause, and for a flash of a second she gets such an intense, borderline predatory smile like a cat that just spotted a bird. Toga's not the only one that does that. ]
[Not to mention most of the places she hung out didn’t have good electricity or television. Himiko picks her character, a pink dinosaur. Not too fancy, focusing on balance and item handling/aiming. It’s cute and she’s an item hoarder.
Oh, she caught that sight of Kenna’s game face and.. it sends chills down her spine. She’s actually excited and afraid? She returned a flashed toothy grin.
Let’s do this!
First course, she gets a good start! (D16) No burnout lag, ha! She hits the first box item and its—— (d12) a green shell! Green shell, fine! She got this.]
[ Himiko are you blushing? Kenma simply smiles and then focuses on the screen.
Now, he's an experienced gamer, and if this were a contest of skill the deck would be horribly stacked. Luckily, or perhaps intentionally, Blario Kart with 6 NPC and items on is NOT a game of skill so much as it is a game of luck, frustration, and Chaos.
Kenma's off to a good start, but being in the lead early is sometimes not the best. His first item is (D16), a mushroom! About as good as one can expect near the front. He holds onto it until the right time before BOOSTING over a nearby jump.
The real chaos comes with the NPC's though, who (D7) seem to scramble around the middle of the pack shooting items off each way, there's bananas and shells firing around the course in no time and (D12) Kenma just barely manages to slip around the corner over a banana. Spinning out but quick to recover. ]
